AR-C spool
The design of the front-facing edge of the AR-C spool is included among Shimano’s patents. This allows the line to travel directly from the spool toward the first line guide. This minimizes the friction at the line guide closest to the reel and eliminates the need for an over-sized guide.

Fightin’ Drag system
Shimano’s Fightin’ Drag is adjusted with a separate lever located at the back of the spinning equipped with a rear drag. This is used when you want to quickly adjust the drag from one standard setting to another. For example, when jigging or casting for seat trout, you can switch from the hooking setting to the fighting setting, or from an almost free line to the hooking setting in bait fishing. The fighting drag is easy to use, because you can always check the setting by glancing at the lever. This makes it easier to adjust the drag force correctly and accurately, particularly in fast-paced situations.

Bearings
The special-purpose Roller Bearing developed by Shimano support the reel axle solidly in the correct alignment. It would take 3–4 traditional ball bearings to replace this roller bearing. This means that Shimano reels are comparable to those from other manufacturers with 3–4 more ball bearings.

Varispeed spooling
